Killed on 10/15/1973 Wrote the song on a desert island, preformed by Shalom Gad Dagi, the son of Tzipora and Yaakov, born and raised in Nahariya. His name was derived from the Eastern European name Fishel, after his grandfather who perished in the Holocaust. As an adult he changed his last name from Marrero to Moore, which means "Teacher" in Hebrew, because he did not like his family name. His family chose to follow his example and also changed their last name. In 1967, immediately after the Six Day War, Dagi began military boarding school in Haifa. Along with his three roommates, he enjoyed playing the Beatles songs. He was described as a guy with diverse interests - he liked music, painting, poems, books and playing the guitar. He was a true and pure soul, but was also a man who was well grounded and responsible. In November 1971, Dagi joined the armed corps and was sent for commanders training, followed by officer training. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was on leave at home. Dagi was called to the fight and joined the 460th Brigade 14th Division. They were placed on the front in Sinai. During a fight held on October 15, 1973 in southern Sinai, his tank was hit, probably from a missile. For four months was defined as a missing person. Finally, three months later, he was laid to rest in the cemetery in Nahariya. After his death, Dagi was awarded a medal of honor (Command Citation). On an island / Shalom Gad On a lonely island Anxiety of the soul Its lonely and thinking Where has it gone? No replies Only a white seagull Wings and tail Where will it fly? Into another country Where the sun will rise And trailing behind A hoope gold |
